Episode 83 Morals

In plain English, these are the morals from Episode 83:

Missing Out

It should be known that I really do enjoy what a dimwit Trisha is. It makes her a lot of fun to parody, and it looks like maybe some fun may come of her as a stalker or something in the inevitable case that Ryan tires of her. However, that doesn't mean it's not possible to pay attention to detailing in the meantime:

I certainly don't recall anyone telling Trisha that Ryan had been married before Nina, and I was expecting quite a blow-up when she found out. But apparently she took it in stride. How boring! Well, what's done is done, and I could have done one of my ``go back and fix it'' plots, but I thought in this case that her brain might just be slow enough that we could do a ``delayed reaction'' instead.

Anyway, I'm happy for any chance to highlight the rest of her limited reasoning abilities; hence the ``he gave me a choice'' ploy.

As to the part with Alec and Megan, it's truly painful watching the show itself with poor Trisha be happy with Ryan not realizing what she's missing in a normal relationship like Alec and Megan have. I'll stop well short of calling this incompetence on the part of the writers--they may very well intend this. And it doesn't make it tedious to watch--just excruciating--a subtle but important distinction. The Geneva Convention (hmm... ``GC'') should probably have specified a maximum length that the writers are allowed to hold us prisoners of this excruciating state, mind you, but for now I'll note that some degree of holding the audience in this agony is normal for a melodrama. And soaps are melodrama. So I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, and congratulate them on how they've generally played the Ryan/Trisha thing for now. Still, you can't blame me for trying to hurry up the process of her finding out how badly she's missing out--and this was my chance to do it.

That's all for Episode 83's morals. Don't miss Episode 84 and its morals!
