In plain English, these are the morals from Episode 117:
There sure seemed to be way more volunteers than homeless people at Gina's for Thanksgiving. I think that's an artifact mostly how few extras the show seems to spring for of late. It seems to me that there used to be scenes like this with lots more extras in order to really complete the scenes and that budgets must be tightening up or something. Weddings and trips abroad are the places I have most noticed the change in the last few years, but this is another. Writing this scene here didn't involve a huge amount of imagination on my part--it's more or less just a retelling of how I perceived the actual scene on the show because it was so brim full of regulars with only the token "homeless person" here and there.
With Nick out there looking for action and with Alice moving his way, it seems only a matter of time until these two get together, whether accidentally or on purpose, so I figured I'd just help things along. I do really like the Alice character--I think she's got considerable spunk. I hope that integrating her with the other parts of the show doesn't injure anything.
Also, I keep thinking that by the time Alice does show up, it'd be fun if she were met with something other than the standard reaction of horror by all concerned. There's a very predictable plotline ahead wherein she arrives, she asserts her desire to take back Cassie, and everyone fights back. Anything to break up the monotony of that. In this case, having Cassie greet her with open arms was one such surprise. Though I think other things could be done, and perhaps I'll try some of them in another episode.
I was going in and out of the room while they were doing these dream sequences with Jill and Katherine, and I really did expect them to bump into each other because I was having trouble telling whose dream sequence was whom. So as with the situation with Gina above, this is mostly just helping you see through my eyes what I thought I saw on the show. Besides, it would be fun to get these guys together. They'd be kind of like a modernized "Odd Couple".
I just can't believe what an idiot Paul is about identifying his father. He's a private detective. He knows how these things are done. When Carl didn't recognize him, he should have said ``It'd be an easy thing to prove, Dad. I'll arrange for a DNA test.'' It might be in character then for Carl to refuse, but at least we'd know Paul had tried the obvious things. As it is, we can't tell if Paul simply forgot this was an option. And I don't find that very credible.
That's all for Episode 117's morals.
